As a child, I discovered that I had this weird ability. I can turn my legs so that one foot is forward and the other foot is facing back. My elbows are the same way. Come to discover that a bone that keeps my knee cap in place is too small. That is how I met my husband is I dislocated my knee on a dance floor. If I am not careful, my knee cap can slide all the way to the back of my leg.
Okay, this may be the oddest way to start a post, but I bet I got your attention. In life, we need to learn to be flexible with God’s interruptions. I just finished laughing with my social media partner because I am so task-oriented, and she is all about people. It is mentally tasking for me to stop right in the middle of work to chit-chat. One of the prayers in my journal is me asking God, “Dear God, help me know when You are interrupting my day to do Your will and Your task.” Do you know that I can feel guilty if I stop too long to socialize during the day? I used to tell my sister, “I need to get off the phone because my boss is really mean.” The sad thing is I am self-employed.
Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on earth.” I will not argue that God needs us to get things done, but seriously if we are ignoring all those moments of discussions or heart-to-hearts, then how can we share God. Do you know that most people just want to be heard? They don’t need you to fix their problems; they just need to feel that their voice matters. Maybe they just need to see a pair of eyes that connect to their eyes. I have no idea why but no matter where I go, people will stop me to tell me their problems. I have even sat in the car with the window only down six inches, and a woman walked up to the window and just started talking. I have learned to go with it, but I do find it humorous that God gave a task-oriented person this gift. I know all of us need to learn to be able to shift gears quickly when God says something else is more important.
Look around you and see if there is someone you can share a moment to talk or call. Enjoy the relationships that God has blessed you with by turning off the electronics and go for a walk or sit outside in nature. Being flexible with your plans so you can share life with others should not be as painful as dislocating your knee. I know sometimes we can get caught off guard by the people God brings to us to connect and love on. The way I look at it is this; God trust me so much, He knows I will not break them more than they already are. Life with God is an adventure if you learn to bend to His will and appreciate the opportunities.
