Seeking God

Seeking God

L. Kathleen Cline

Synonyms for seeking: ask for, beg, be in quest of, be intent on, hunt for, try to obtain

"He (Uzziah) continued to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding through the vision of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God prospered him." 2 Chronicles 26:5

Humans seek what they love. At this moment you could google "drug seeking behaviors" and get a list of what to look for in patients or people that use the medical field to fulfill their desire for drugs.
You could also google the word "Seeker" and get a list of, "People who seek attention," or "People who seek happiness." The list of seekers is endless.

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might." Deuteronomy 6:5

Repeatedly, I have taught that all you need to do is love God and the rest of life falls into place. Why, because you seek what you love? For example, if you want something sweet, you go to the store and shop in the bakery. No one has to force you to seek out what you like. You don't tell yourself, "Okay, every Friday I must go to the store and get a cake no matter if I want one or not." No! Life is only enjoyable if your heart is free to love without guilt.
Guilt comes into play for us when Satan enslaves us to sinful behaviors. That includes religions. Seeking God involves a personal relationship. There is no traditions or compulsions (forced) into a  relationship with God.
Let me give you an example with my life choices. Apparently, I am an extremely organized woman. Last week was one of those moments that kind of embarrassed me. I went over to help make gifts for an upcoming leadership conference. The owner of the home was mentoring a young lady. I unconsciously lined everything up in a very linear order, as I was given supplies for the gifts.  All of a sudden the young woman said, "Are you a highly organized person?" I could not deny it because my crafts were perfectly lined up.
What is my point? When it comes to God, I never know what I am going to do that day during my quiet time. There is no, read this-then sing that-now pray. I do have a fall back of reading the Proverbs that coordinates with the days' date. For the past few weeks though, God has had me research topics or verses. God has had me meditating on Psalm 34. Everywhere I turn, someone is talking about this chapter.
Seeking God allows you and God to have a conversation about a topic for a day to years. Personal means it is not planned out but instead, means God directs the subject of discussion and the method of learning specifically for you.
May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and the steadfastness of Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5
Christians like to quote Jeremiah 29:11 as the go to verse for encouragement. I think Christ followers have failed to cite the key to verse 11 by skipping the next two verses. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29: 12-13 emphasizes the link to our future and our hope to seeking God. Free will inhibits God from actively involving Himself in our lives without an invitation. Yes, God has a personal plan for each of us, but that plan does not just activate in our lives without permission. Humans must seek God!
Next time you crave whatever, ask yourself, "Why don't I love God as much as I love (fill in the blank?)
Have you prayed 2 Thessalonians 3:5 over your life?
Have you determined in your heart that nothing in your life will be loved more than God?
If you are having issues in your life, then maybe things are the way they are because of where your passions fall.
If you go to push back on that last statement, then I will only state what I know in my life. Through losing my virginity to rape, miscarriages, a family that hates, friends that betrayed, loved ones that died and financial lack, God is the only thing that has and will stabilize and supports my crushed spirit. Life without God, can and will drive you to drink, hate, indulge and abuse. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say to the Lord, "My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!" Psalm 91:1-2
May I always seek to love you Lord with all my heart, soul and might till my last breath!!!!
